Shes a Photographer...with a backstory
My name is Melissa. I am a Lifestyle Photographer in Michigan. I am also a wife and mother of two Madison who is 11 and Victor just turned 9 this summer. I recently (2 years ago) decided with my husband that we should start the process of Virtual Schooling as we lived in Oklahoma City at the time and had a lot of travling back and forth to Michigan we wanted our scheudle to be flexible. My family and I recently (January 2024) moved back to Michigan and are still currently doing Virtual School. School days start at 8:30 and go to about 2:30/3 similar to normal school inbetween online classes I do a majoirty of my photography work, editing, emails, client reach outs and anything else that needs to be done. This flexible schedule is great for my family however, we are looking forward to getting them back into REAL school this next year/spring. Both Madison and Victor play soccer while Josh (my husband) is the coach for our sons team I was lucly enough to be appointed team manager by him. We spend two days a week at practice and have games on the weekends. Each year I think wow parenting is the best with a 6 year old, 7 year old, 8 year old....etc and it really is every year I think about how lucky I am to be experiencing parenthood with a helpful partner in life and just blessed with incredible kids.
But where did she start?
but where did she start?
I bought my first camera in 2013! Yes, that long ago. I have upgraded my gear since then however, I can't say I have put my camera down since. 2015 I started taking classes at Pensacola State College where I learned about photography and started my first job as a professional photographer at Mom365. This first job would lead me into offering some of my favorite sessions that I still offer today, Fresh48's. I did take a break in 2017-2019 to help my family and go back to work. Ultimatly I decided that working with two littles ones was not the best for my own mental health and needed to big a bigger presence in their life. I literally picked up my camera and offered sessions to really anyone who was willing to be my model and help me work on my craft. Fast forward and I still am working with some of those early clients today (thank god for a glow up in my craft and trusting clients). As I grow in my career it is a joy that I am able to be as creative as I can be. I try to stay on top of trends in the photography world as well as being artistically candid during sessions.
Where is she going?
As I started my career I always reflect on where that passion came from. Making my own family memories and documeting my families story. I am delighted that a dream that I have had for so long I am finally ready and able to share. I will be sharing family life, sessions and everything that comes along. All of my sessions are different to an extent and I can't wait to share what I am putting in my clients galleries, prep work that goes into sessions and update their own family stroy on my blog as well.
I want to be practive and say I will do a blog often and I think if I manifest this I can make it true.
I am here to share personal stories and memories through bloging and photography.
Photography
This year I started sharing monthly newsletters to help prepare for the following month. I drop these newsletters the first week of the month and the entail session openings, whats coming along in the next couples months, dates for mini's and holiday sessions as well as what I am working on!
The next newsletter will be coming from my website and shared to subscribers.
October will be filled with a ton of sessions and I am truly hoping tons of blogging opportunities to share what I am up to as well as client families. I will be sharing what to wear to the Holiday Card Mini Sessions and a brand new item that I am adding for my Maternity Clients...dress rentals with Studio Backdrop options for their solo, couple or family maternity sessions!
Thank you
As I continue to grow in this career I could not be more thankful to my clients and their referrals that reach out to me to after seeing their friends sessions. I put my all into my craft and seeing it take off truly is a dream come true for my family and I.
